Cordless Grass and Hedge Shears

I’ve been given a Cordless Grass and Hedge shears to review.

The kind people at Webb tools recently sent me one of their new power tools to try out.

It’s a battery driven and hand held electric shears and comes with two cutting heads. It also came with a plug in to the mains charger.

 

 

 

My first impressions

Well I must say that they were very good!

The Webb Cordless Grass and Hedge Shears were well packaged and after a quick charge of the batteries it was ready to use. You’ll note that I wrote batteries [plural] because the batteries are not contained in the handle since they are a part of each cutting head.

Yes, there is more than one cutting head! I received one designed for cutting grass and another to trim shrubs. It’s also very quick and easy to change from one to the other since no tools are needed.

Now some battery driven garden tools are quite heavy but this isn’t. I can see that, even after prolonged use, this power tool will not tire you out. Quite the contrary! It will save you time and effort.

I found assembling the blades was very easy and positive.

To operate the blades you need to use both hands which ensures that you don’t inadvertently start the blades with your fingers near any moving parts.

 

The Grass Shears

If you have a very small garden or want to trim those hard to get to areas of grass that your mower just can’t reach then this is the tool for you! The sharp blades cut my grass around shrubs very easily and made a very neat job of it too.

I had hoped that I would be able to use these blades to chop up dead perennial stems into shorter lengths. I was putting these stems into my compost heap and I know that they break down faster if they are chopped up. However, the stems of proved to be too tough for this little hand tool.

 

For tidying up grass that the mower missed or for small areas that need a trim but it isn’t worth getting the mower out of the garage, this tool is perfect.

But if you have a small city garden with a very small area of grass then this could be the tool for you. A big advantage is that this power tool needs very little storage space when not in use.

A telescopic pole handle on wheels is available for cutting larger areas but this was not included in the shears that I was gifted by Webb.

 

The Hedge Shears

With a large garden [mine is one acre] and many hedges this will not be the tool that I will use for almost 300 metres of hedge!

But where I will find this power tool useful is to quickly tidy up any bits missed and to cut those odd annoying long shoots that invariably grow a week or two after I have finished cutting our hedges!

However, I’m sure that the Webb Cordless Grass and Hedge Shears with the hedge cutting bar fitted will be perfect for trimming topiary bushes.

I tried it out on one of several dwarf box balls that I have. I’m sure that it will be ideal for trimming and shaping the topiary pyramid holm oak trees too.

In summary, I think this cordless grass and hedge shears would be a very useful power tool for the smaller city or town garden but that it has its uses even in a garden as large as mine!
