A virtual Garden Day is on the horizon!

It’s annual celebration of gardens and gardening is going to have to be markedly different to the previous three.

What is a Virtual Garden Day?

In other years this day has been celebrated with friends, neighbours and family in our gardens. However, due to the pandemic lockdown restrictions in place the celebration can continue in gardens but will be shared online through social media channels.

Garden Day, now in it’s fourth year, is one day of the year to set aside and enjoy. Just lay down your tools and celebrate the garden!

We all know the value of green spaces and gardening to our physical health and well being.

And Garden Day is an excuse to just stop and have some fun!

When is Garden Day?

Sunday May 10th 2020 is virtual garden day in the UK.

Who can take part?

Anyone can take part and they don’t even need to have a garden!

Of course we’d like everyone to observe social distancing and stay safe but you can take part in the safety of your home or garden. Just share with your friends and family by posting your pictures online.

Don’t forget to tag your pics with @GardenDayUK or #gardendayuk and #flowercrown.

How to get involved

It’s a chance to really use your imagination to create a flower crown to wear on your head.

Do take part even if you live in a flat but have a balcony or a courtyard!

Why not use carrot tops? Or perhaps paper flowers can be made? Or even use dried flowers and fruits?

Maybe your garden is new like mine and there’s not yet a lot to snip off and use.

On your daily outdoor hour exercise you can gather a few pieces of ivy to form a flowercrown base, add a few sprigs of cow parsley and other wild flowers.

Don’t pick anything that is rare or unusual and certainly not from someone’s garden!

Perhaps you think that flower crowns are not for blokes? Well a lot of them will be wearing them! Perhaps you’d feel more comfortable wearing a crown made of vegetables, fruits and herbs?

You’ve got pets? Well why not make a flower crown for them to wear and join in your fun too?
